The XE Falcon (1982–1984) refined everything that came before it, tightened up reliability, and gave Falcon owners one of the most robust purely analogue electrical systems ever fitted to a mass-market Australian car.

There are no computers, no sensors, no electronic engine management — just a well-sorted 12-volt system doing exactly what it was designed to do.

System Overview

The XE Falcon runs a traditional 12-volt negative earth electrical system built entirely around mechanical and relay-based control.

Key components include:

  • Conventional externally regulated alternator
  • Lead-acid battery (conventional or maintenance-free depending on trim)
  • Carburetted engine with distributor ignition

Alternator and Charging System

The XE Falcon uses a conventional externally regulated alternator system on earlier builds, transitioning to improved internally regulated variants depending on specification and production run.
