10 Facts you may not have known about the FG-X Falcon

FG-X Falcon

The FG-X was the final Australian-built Falcon, ending over 56 years of local production in 2016.

The exterior styling was inspired by global Ford models like the Mondeo, aligning it with Ford’s “One Ford” design language.

The “FG-X” name was chosen partly due to enthusiast feedback and references both Fairmont Ghia heritage and the iconic “X-series” Falcons (XK–XF).

It was only offered as a sedan and ute — no wagon variant was ever made.

The turbo Barra in Sprint models produced up to 325 kW, making it one of the most powerful Aussie six-cylinder engines ever.

The supercharged 5.0L “Miami” V8 delivered up to 345 kW in XR8 Sprint form.

It featured three different 6-speed transmissions: two automatics and one manual.

The FG-X’s Sprint models (XR6 & XR8) were limited-run send-offs celebrating the end of Falcon production.

The FG-X marked the end of the Falcon as Ford’s longest-running nameplate globally.

Even at launch, pricing remained relatively competitive, with base models starting around $35,900 AUD.
