The BA Falcon was produced from September 2002 until October 2005. Production spanned 37 months. It represented a major facelift of the AU Falcon. The styling was toned down to represent a much more contemporary and conservative look which proved to be much more popular with the Australian motoring public.

The BA represented a $500 million dollar investment from Ford Australia. In 2002 it won Wheels Car of the Year, the first Falcon to do so in 36 years.

The BA was brought in as an update to the AU which was hit and miss with buyers. Some loved it and others hated it. Basically, Ford played it safe with the BA and it worked with just under 200 000 (196 023) cars produced in its time on the assembly line.

Transmissions available with the BA were a 4 speed automatic transmission and a 5 speed manual.

A new range of engines were available with the BA. The engines were quieter, smoother yet more powerful than the previous ones, named the ‘Barra’ engines. The 6 cylinder engines were still an inline 6. Every Ford Falcon 6 cylinder engine mass produced in Australia has been an inline 6. A new range of V8 engines also entered the BA line up, named the ‘Boss’ engines.

Safety was also a point of emphasis with the BA, offering a number of new and improved safety options, many of them standard in the higher spec models.

The BA was available as a sedan, station wagon and a Ute. No panelvan option was available from the factory.

The BA, priced from $34 560 brand new, would be replaced by the BF in 2005.
