The Ford FG Falcon was introduced in February 2008 and served as a major upgrade to the previous model BF Falcon. It is the first car in the seventh generation of Australian Ford Falcons.
It introduced a new body shape for the Ford Falcon. The main focus points for the FG Falcon are safety, driveability and fuel consumption. The FG has the distinction of being the first Australian car manufactured to achieve a 5 start ANCAP safety rating.
The FG sold in 3 main trim levels. The base level Falcons. The G series, the luxury models. The XR range, the performance range. The FG FPV range sold alongside the FG, based on the G series and the XR model ranges.
The ‘Barra’ inline 6 carried over from the previous model BF. The turbo variant received a power boost from 245kW to 270kW.
The FG V8 engine carried over from the previous model FPV V8 engine, producing 290kW of power.
For the performance engines available with the FG, the XR6 turbo outsold the XR8.
The FG Falcon is available as both a sedan and a Ute. The station wagon was dropped from the range in 2010. The FG lineup featured no Fairlane or LTD models.
It sold in large numbers, being on the production line for 6 years, the longest time for any Ford Falcon sedan model. The FG MKII debuted in 2012. Replaced in late 2014, by the FG-X, the FG featured the last FPV models.
