The XT Falcon, introduced in March 1968 replaced the XR. It was essentially a facelifted version of the XR Falcon. Although few cosmetic changes were made from the XR to the XT, there were significant changes made, most of the changes were made under the skin. Changes were made to improve the ride and handling of the car, offering a smoother, quieter and more responsive ride.
A completely new engine line up was available with the XT.
The Ford XT Falcon’s new engine line up featured 2 inline 6 engine (3.1L 85kW, 3.6L 101kW) as well as a 5.0L 157kW V8 engine. The new engine line up offered better power and better performance than the previous line up, continuing with the theme of improved performance. Ford were pushing for this and had started to promote with the XR Falcon.
Drivers who had upgraded from the XR to the XT said the newer XT possessed a noticeable improvement from behind the wheel. The new engines had relatively few teething problems as would be expected by a newer more powerful engine in the 1960’s.
The Ford ZB Fairlane sold alongside the XT. The XT was available as a sedan, wagon, ute and as a panel van.
Production totaled 80 000 units, produced in 15 months. Prices started from $2 230. The XW would replace the XT.
