10 Facts you may not have known about the XF
The XF Falcon replaced the XE towards the end of 1984. Ford staggered end dates for the XF. Sedans, wagons, utes and panel vans were introduced during October 1984. Sedans and wagons were replaced by the EA in February 1988 while the XF ute and panelvan would continue until the XG debuted in March 1993.
The XF was a facelift of the previous model. It would be the last of the XD/ XE/ XF generation. The XF featured sleeker, flatter, rounder styling that created a much more contemporary look. It had the effect of making the car seem smaller and lower than it actually was, despite being very similar in size.
The XF falcon was only available as a 6 cylinder. Despite this it was still the best selling car in Australia from its introduction in 1984 up until the sedans and wagons were replaced in 1988. The XF dominated the fleet and taxi market making it a great seller. The XF, is in fact the best selling Falcon of all times with nearly 280 000 XF’s produced in total.
It was the first Falcon run on unleaded fuel, which it did from January 1986, this was to comply with new government regulations. Engines available were either a 3.3L inline 6 or a 4.1L inline six. Transmission options included a 3 speed automatic, a 4 speed manual or a 5 speed manual.
XF Falcon production totaled 278 101 units. Prices started at $12 007
