Ford Australia revealed its last Falcon, the FG-X Falcon, in August 2014, replacing the FG Falcon after 6 years on the production line. The upgrade, featured mainly an exterior facelift, loosely based on other European Ford models such as the Ford Mondeo.

The new code, like the preceding FG, pays homage to the Fairmont Ghia nameplates of past generations whereas the X points to the Falcon’s most popular series, the X series. This runs from the XR to the XF (1966 – 1988). The FG X, officially launched in December 2014 offered in both sedan and utility body styles.

The FG-X, available only as a sedan and a ute. No wagon would be available.

With Ford’s manufacturing plant shutting down, the FG X was only produced for a little less than two years.

The 6 cylinder ‘Barra’ engine carried over from the previous model FG. By the time the FG-X debuted, the Barra engine featured in Falcon models for 12 years. The already iconic 6 cylinder engine featured more refinement and of course more power with the ‘XR6 Sprint’ variant producing 335kW.

The FG-X V8 engine, the 5.0L, produced 335kW in the XR8 and 345kW with the XR8 Sprint.

2 6 speed automatic and 1 6 speed manual transmissions were available.

As of June 2018, during the models tenure, it has sold over 11,100 vehicles. Including Utility sales made throughout the same duration, this would bring the tally to approximately 16,100.

The FG-X would be the last Falcon model produced. At the time, the ‘Falcon’ is the longest serving Ford nameplate in Fords history, worldwide.
