XD Falcon<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The design of the XD Falcon was based on a European Ford<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The XD was the first Falcon to use plastic bumpers, this\nwas done to reduce the weight of the vehicle<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main reason for the upgrade from the XC to the XD was\nto produce a more fuel efficient car. The basic concept was to stick to similar\nrunning gear and produce a lighter car while still being classed as a \u2018full\nsize\u2019 car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just under 200 000 XD Falcons were produced<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The XD ESP was released in 1980 (ESP stood for European\nSports Pack)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the XD production run the cast iron cylinder head\nwas replaced with an alloy one which was 31 kilograms lighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The XD had a 77 litre fuel tank<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The XD Falcon was about 4cm narrower than the XC<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The XD Falcon wagon was the first Australian built car to\nhave a rear windscreen wiper as standard equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The primary focus for the development of the XD project was\nto build a more fuel efficient car by producing a lighter car that was still\nclassed as \u2018full size\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
